Data recovery refers to the process of salvaging data from damaged, corrupted, failed, or inaccessible media where the data cannot be accessed normally. The most common data recovery scenario involves an operating system failure or accidental damage. Another scenario involved a disk-level failure such as a compromised file system or hard dish failure. In these cases, the data cannot be easily read and efforts have to be made to repair the file system or hard disk recovery techniques have to be deployed in order to recovery the data. In the third scenario, files have been deleted from a storage medium. The contents of deleted files are not removed immediately from the drive, the data have references in the directory structure removed and occupy a space that is available for overwriting. The original data remains in a number of disconnected fragments and may be recoverable.
New data recovery experts can recover lost data from various operating systems and storage mediums such as:
Hard Disk Drives
Thumb Drives
Digital Cards
Storage Tapes
CDs
DVDs
RAID
Other forms of digital media
